Areas of focus 2025
GFIN AI Project
This project aims to gather evidence about our members and observers' approaches to consumer-facing AI in financial services, co-led by the Financial Services Authority and Dubai Financial Services Authority.
AI’s use in financial services has the potential to be transformative, presenting significant opportunities for enhancing efficiency, ensuring customer personalisation, and providing more inclusive and accessible products and services. However, it also poses challenges such as data privacy concerns, the potential for job displacement, and the need for regulatory adaption.
The Global Financial Innovation Network’s (GFIN) inaugural report on the impact of AI in the sector outlines key insights into how consumer facing AI is reshaping financial services and requiring a balanced approach to innovation and ethical considerations.
This report is part of a GFIN AI Project co-led by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA). The report aimed to explore consumer-facing use cases of AI in financial services among GFIN Members and Observers.
Throughout 2024, the GFIN AI Project included a series of engagements in the form of international roundtables and bilateral discussions. The roundtables included discussions on robo-advice, personalised finance, and consumer education & information and how these are being adopted within global jurisdictions. This report is a summary of these discussions and does not represent regulatory guidance or policy positions.
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies hold transformative potential for consumer-facing financial services, promising to enhance consumers’ financial lives, making financial markets more efficient, accessible, and customised for consumer needs. However, despite the opportunities, these advancements also coincide with risks and challenges, especially in terms of consumer protection and regulatory oversight.
