National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV)
Mexico City, MexicoThe CNBV is an agency of the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit (Ministry of Finance) responsible for:
- Supervising and regulating banks and all other financial entities not supervised by CONSAR (National Commission of the Retirement Savings System) and CNSF (Insurance and Surety National Commission) including on AML/CFT issues.
- Authorizing financial entities willing to enter the financial market.
- The CNBV supervises and regulates the entities that are part of the Mexican financial system, striving for its stability and proper functioning, as well as maintaining and promoting the sound and balanced development of such a system as a whole, in protection of the interests of the public.
- It also supervises and regulates natural persons and other legal persons when carrying out activities provided for by law and relating to the financial system.

- Banking and development banking institution
- Securities Sector (Brokerage firms, Investment funds, Investment Fund Share Distribution, Investment advisors, Equity and Derivatives Exchange)
- Microfinance (Credit unions, saving and credit corporative societies, among others)
- Multiple Purpose Financial Companies ER
- Financial Technologic Institutions (Crowdfunding and digital wallets)
- Guidance on the application of laws and rules to innovative business models
- Support with authorisation to operate in Mexico
- Live Sandbox testing environment
- Waivers or exemptions, for any entity meeting certain criteria
- Engagement with firms on regtech and suptech solutions
- Engagement with innovators and/or other third parties (e.g. academics, consultants and other organisations)
